Of the 10,717 people polled by VnExpress, the Tourism Advisory Board and the Private Economic Development Research Board in December, 30.4 percent said they planned to visit Phu Quoc this year.

Da Lat, a resort town famous for its year-round cool weather in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, was second.

Sa Pa town in Lao Cai Province, around 300 kilometers from Hanoi, was in third place.

Ha Giang Province, famous for terraced rice fields, came in seventh.

Situated around 300 kilometers (186 miles) north of Hanoi on the China border, Ha Giang has become an increasingly popular destination not just for its spectacular scenery but also narrow, twisting roads and mountain passes that kindle the spirit of adventure.

Hoi An town in the central province of Quang Nam, which reopened to domestic tourism in mid-November, was eighth.

Con Dao Island, famous for its beautiful beaches and a wartime prison, came in ninth.

The island off the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau reopened to domestic tourists last October after commercial flights were restarted.
