Colorful Phu Quoc Island through an expat lens
Frenchman Benjamin Tortorelli, who has lived in Vietnam for 10 years, says Phu Quoc is the country’s only island he can stay on for a week without feeling bored.
Tortorelli, a French expat working in Ho Chi Minh City, flew to Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island, in January 2020 for the third time to enjoy a six-day vacation. During the week, he had rented a motorbike to get around and captured the colors of Phu Quoc.

Tortorelli’s favorite activities here include discovering small islands like Xuong, Mong Tay and Gam Ghi. He said these islands boast incredible beauty and are a haven for photographers.

He said Phu Quoc is the only island in Vietnam that he will not get tired of traveling around for a week since there is “so much you can do in a place.“

The Frenchman said he used to think taking photos was time consuming. However, three years ago, he took up the “point and shoot” approach thanks to a new phone given to him by his wife.
